  • If a person or institution is facing the axe, that person is likely to lose their job or that institution is likely to be closed, usually in order to save money. 
  • Hundreds more staff face the axe as managers prepare to present a five-year plan to investors.

Snap election

A snap election is an election that is called earlier than the one that has been scheduled.

Demand shock

  • A demand shock is a sudden unexpected event that dramatically increases or decreases demand for a product or service, usually temporarily. 
  • A positive demand shock is a sudden increase in demand, while a negative demand shock is a decrease in demand.
